Finding the Silver Lining

Brown Silver-line (Petrophora chlorosata)

Here at Blackwater Valley, you never know what you’re going to come across when you take a wander through our many sites. Beautiful flora and fauna can be found at every turn and during a recent task over at Southwood Woodland, volunteer Gerry was lucky enough to spot this wonderful Brown Silver-line moth.

Fancy your chances at spotting some of the smaller critters on our sites? Then head on down to Southwood Woodland on Sunday 23rd of July for the next volunteer task. Training, tools, and tea will be provided and we recommend you bring old clothes/boots to wear and some lunch. Any under 18 year olds that are interested are more than welcome but please be aware you must have an accompanying adult with you.

Whether you can join us or not, make sure to keep an eye out when you’re wondering the sites and see everything there is to see.

About blackwatervalleycountryside

The Blackwater Valley is located on the borders of Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire and runs for approximately 30km from the source near Aldershot, northwards to Swallowfield. At its confluence it joins the rivers Whitewater and Loddon. The Loddon eventually flows into the River Thames near Reading. Work in the Blackwater Valley is co-ordinated by the Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership on behalf of the local authorities that border the Valley. Despite being surrounded by urban development the Valley provides an important green corridor for local residents As well as the Blackwater Valley Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a small part of the Basingstoke Canal SSSI, three nature reserves within the Valley catchment and many other areas have been recognised for their ecological importance. The local planning authorities covering the Valley have designated 31 other areas as ‘Wildlife Sites’.
