It was a busy work experience session with Assistant Ranger Laura on Friday 6th. We headed out to Wellesley Woodlands and started by repairing a section of fencing on Fleet Road that was damaged by a car at the end of last year. Laura taught us how to use the post rammer safely, before helping us grapple with the Gripple and monkey strainers! We finished off by attaching a section of dog-proof mesh – it was fiddly work, but the fence looked as good as new once we were done.
We moved to another section of the woodland in the afternoon, where I worked with Jeremy repairing fence rails while Laura did a tree survey. Then we all got stuck in to clearing a HUGE pile of discarded AstroTurf. It was hard work untangling the strips from one another and we had to be careful to avoid getting a face full of damp sand! We loaded as much as we could into the trailer and earmarked the rest for another day.
Before heading back to base we rounded up a couple of metal posts and added them to our haul.
Thanks for a great day Laura and Jeremy!
