The Blackwater Valley Countryside Trust has been working with Holly Lodge School to improve their science area and return it to a useful place for them to use as well as promoting conservation and wildlife. On a previous task the centre of the area had been cleared of the dense scrub and the brash was neatly stacked on one side of the area, ready for the Rangers to bring their chipper and reduce it down to something much more managable!
With 6 keen volunteers we worked our way through the large stack, stopping for tea, coffee and kitkats! (Thank you Bernard) and eventually the brash was reduce down to a tenth of its size. We aimed to stack it against a stump to help create a habitat pile and keep it off the snowdrops and bluebells just starting to emerge and flower around us.
